life in the fast lane

I like being on the go. No, let me rephrase that, I love being on the go. There's something about always having something to do that makes me love my life. As you know, I like to be talking, seeing, touching, laughing, smiling, and dancing. This weekend was one of the best weekends I've had in a long time. Well, since Christmas. :)
It all started Thursday night with a much needed night out on the town. Birmingham has so many hot spots. I like trying out new places. A fantastic surprise happened before I went out Thursday night that made it even more enjoyable. School was canceled on Friday!! YAHOOO!! This meant no early morning and late afternoon busy, no school dance, no handing out carnations... I was so excited. Until I remembered, tomorrow I will have to hand out carnations and Friday we will have the dance. Oh well, at least I missed one day of bus duty. And then I remembered, this means...I will have to make up this day in JUNE!!!! Not good.

Friday, I woke up to snow falling!! I quickly got up, took a shower, packed my bags and headed to Tuscaloosa. When I got there, I drove around campus and took some pictures of the snow. So beautiful.

Friday night I went to cheer on Alabama gymnastics. Alabama faced Florida. There is nothing I can say nice about Florida. I even don't like them in gymnastics. Every girl did the Gator chomp in their floor routine. How annoying!! After the meet, we ventured out to Rounders. Nothing beats people watching.

Saturday was a laid back day. I had a very nice dinner and enjoyed Yogurt Mountain. :) Sunday, I went to see Valentine's Day. This movie is so cute, very predictable, but cute. Then, dinner at Mellow Mushroom.

Today, I didn't have school... but this is going to be a long week!! I have a lot to finish since we didn't have school Friday, which is my catch up day. This week we are having our dress rehearsal for the play. I'll let you know how that goes. Friday will be the dance. I am so excited about it!! It will be fun to watch these kids do all the dances. :)

Hope you have a great week!!

Lots of things

In two days, I have had some interesting experiences....
Yesterday I had a great meeting with Michael Jordan's mom. She was incredibly nice and let me know how muhc she appreciated the work we do with him. I was so thankful she was nice and understanding. She also voiced concerns she had for Michael Jordan. It's comforting to know that some parents do care and want their children to do better. :) I told her how much I love Michael Jordan.
When there's one fight, there are always multiple fights in the week period. Friday there was a fight in the lunchroom, today in about 5 minutes, there were two fights. One of my students was involved in one of the fights. He had been doing soooooo much better. I am a little angry at him for fighting.
I also had a student skip class today. I really don't know why anyone would want to skip my class. I am not strick, mean, and I let them have fun. Yet, she didn't show up for class!!
Last night, I purchased steps for step aerobics. :) I had a great time laughing at myself last night as I stood in my living room stepping and messing up. Millie was so confused as to what I was doing. She couldn't figure out why I didn't want her to be beside me. I woke up this morning with sore calf muscles!! That means I worked on something. :)
Hope you are having a great week. On Friday, if it doesn't snow, we will be having a Valentine's Dance at school. I'll be blogging about the excitement that happens there...

it ain't right

Some things happen and we never know why. This is one of those things. As most of you know, my daddy died last Wednesday afternoon. I can't believe it's almost been a week. Time really flies. God has given me a lot of strength and I am doing okay. I'll talk about it more as I can. Just know that prayers are needed and appreciated. :)

On a happy note-- I have the best friends in the world!! Thank you so much for coming home and being with me. You have no idea how much I needed that. I was also able to share much needed time with my brother. You can never have enough of that!! :) When I returned to school, the special ed girls made me a HUGE basket...a survival kit.
When I returned back to school yesterday, all my kids were so excited to see me. I didn't have classes yesterday so I could catch up on all my paper work. I had a boy ask if he could just come for a visit. :) I am glad they missed me. Today, all the kids were asking about my dad. I had one sweet boy say, "Miss McCormack, I heard about your daddy. I am sorry that happened. I pray for you." I just wanted to break down. How could this boy, who gives me so much trouble, know to say that?! I thanked God for him and his parents.
The black history program is only a few short weeks away...and we have a long way to go. I love seeing these kids use their talents, but I hate staying after school til 5. I am exhausted when I get home and Millie misses me a lot. I can't wait to see the program put together. I know these kids are going to do great.
An update on my masters: I am not starting it this summer. A professor who was teaching this summer is very sick and will not be able to teach. The university has put the program on hold. So this summer I will be playing. If you hear of a job you think I'd like, let me know. :)
Thank you for reading my blog. I am going to do better about updating it. I promise. This verse is helping me right now. I hope it helps you too!! Psalm 46:10-- "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted on the earth."
